Flying Down
Six-year-old Vero desires nothing more in the world than to become a Papantla flyer, just like her uncle Tizoc. However, on the first day of training she encounters an obstacle: she is afraid of heights. Knowing she’ll routinely have to climb a sixty-foot pole in order to perform the ritual, her fear threatens her dream. Instead of actively fighting to overcome her phobia, Vero begins to focus on other aspects of the flyer’s training, until she can no longer escape the challenge.
